Key Information Haiti has been known as the poorest nation in the western hemisphere Eco-tourism is one of the most reliable sources for economic stimulation in developing nations Haiti is the only Caribbean nation that does not have a dive industry Poverty and exploitation exposed Haitian coastal waters to overfishing and pollution that devastated wildlife Re-bar is used in artificial reef construction to create protected fish habitats Earthquake rubble that is free of pollutants is littered throughout Haiti Part of the “Sustainable Haiti Project” Vision Teach a man to fish and also to protect the fish... The Haiti Marine Memorials will be a gift of reclaimed coastal areas to provide monuments and legacy to the people of Haiti. These memorials will stimulate healthy coral growth to renew reef habitats that can serve as productive fisheries, dive destinations for eco-tourism and also provide protective ocean barriers for coastal villages. Haitians will be given much needed employment to use earthquake rubble from their own neighborhoods to design, build and maintain beautiful dedications to those who lost their lives. Together we will raise enough revenue and awareness to plant the seeds of a new Haiti where empowerment and pride are given to the people who are building their own sustainable future.
